SUMMARY:Nature's Colors: Watercolor Basics for Nature Journaling
DESCRIPTION:In this series of very beginner-friendly classes\, students will learn the basics of mixing and painting with watercolor paints in popular colors for nature drawings. Using just a few paints\, we will focus on creating a range of nature-inspired colors using the three primaries of red\, yellow and blue\, as well as learning techniques for applying paint to paper. Each week will be dedicated to creating a range of hues within a color family: gorgeous greens\, beautiful blues\, vibrant reds and oranges\, and luminous neutrals. This event is coordinated by Hoyt Arboretum and registration is required through their website.

SUMMARY:Using Colonizers: Plantain
DESCRIPTION:Let’s take a look at using the plant Plantain! \nThis little groundcover genus\, Plantago\, is also known as ‘White Man’s Foot’. While it is not as invasive as other species I have focused on\, it is plentiful and easily harvested. During this workshop\, we will also be making salve using mainly plantain\, oil\, and beeswax. This is useful on dry skin and minor injuries! \nThe location of the training itself will be indoors at Bark’s Office at 351 NE 18th Avenue\, Portland\, OR. 97232. This event will have classroom style learning so bring pencil and paper. Gender-neutral restrooms will be available. \n‘Using Colonizers’ is Bark’s class series focusing on using invasive species as much as we can. This not only removes harmful species from Pacific Northwest spaces\, but gives us tools to use the removed plants instead of just killing them. Have a craft you’d like to teach? Have a backyard filled with invasives and would like to host? Contact me at Haley@bark-out.org \nRegistration Required \nSliding Scale $0-$20

I spent most of my time outside at the beach\, rivers\, and in the woods which created a strong connection to nature. I studied drawing\, painting\, collage and ceramics; graduating from Humboldt State University with a bachelor’s degree in art. I treasure nature and animals\, which have been incorporated into most of my pieces. \nThe Pacific Northwest and Mojave Desert provide a natural beauty that continues to inspire the development of my work. In my studio I can call on past and current experiences\, visions and illustrations to create these unique impressions of the natural world. My physical journeys are reflected in my designs and I am intrigued to follow this path and see where it takes my art. I keep exploring the outdoors to develop this vision of the natural world as I see it.

SUMMARY:Using Colonizers: Botanical Prints
DESCRIPTION:Let’s take an in-depth look at the history of some highly invasive local flowers. We’ll look into why they were introduced\, what ways they’ve impacted our PNW environment and how we can use them responsibly. When we remove their flowers from the environment\, we can prevent seeds from forming and therefore future spreading. \nThis will include all the materials you need to create a printed tote bag. If you want to bring some personal blooms to experiment with\, you may! \nInvasive flowers to prioritize: Scotch Broom\, Butterfly Bush\, Clematis \nThe location of the workshop itself will be indoors at Bark’s Office at 351 NE 18th Avenue\, Portland\, OR. 97232. This event will be classroom-style learning so bring pencil and paper if you want to take notes. Gender-neutral restrooms will be available. \nThank you! \nQuestions?
