SUMMARY:Brown's Ferry Park Bird Walk
DESCRIPTION:Join naturalist and educator Elaine Murphy for a free educational bird walk around Brown’s Ferry Park! Browns Ferry Park in Tualatin is on 28.3 acres of land acquired by Zenas Brown in 1850 under the Donation Land Act. Brown operated Tualatin’s first ferry upstream from here between 1850 and 1856. An old barn reminds visitors that this suburban area was once farmland. The centerpiece of the park is the Browns Ferry Pond\, which is a hive of activity for various species of birds from fall through spring. \nOur expert-guided free bird walks are a great way to see and learn to recognize our local birds! \nTo accompany Elaine on the bird walk\, we ask that you register in advance by phoning the Lake Oswego shop at 503-445-2699\, press 2. The walk will last 2 – 3 hours.  Advance reservations are required—we limit the number of participants to ensure that everyone has an enjoyable and educational experience.  Dress for the weather\, and\, please\, no pets! \nBrown’s Ferry Park – 5855 SW Nyberg Lane. Meet in the parking lot on the west side of the park at 8am.  \n  \n

SUMMARY:La Center Bottoms Bird Walk
DESCRIPTION:Get outside and enjoy our mild spring weather with a birding adventure to Clark County\, Washington!  Join naturalist Elaine Murphy and the hosting Backyard Bird Shop of Vancouver for a free tour of  La Center Bottoms\, a 314-acre county-owned stewardship site consisting of wetlands\, floodplains\, shorelines\, and forested uplands. \nThe East Fork of the Lewis River flows past the town of La Center. Originally a natural wetland\, the river lowlands were diked in the early years of the 20th century to create cropland.  Part of the dike has failed to recreate a habitat for waterfowl\, otters\, and coyotes.  It’s now one of three state-designated “Watchable Wildlife” spots in Clark County. \nPlease register in advance (our walks do fill up) by phoning the Vancouver shop at 503-445-2699\, and press 5. \nMeeting Spot – Traveling NW LaCenter Rd from I-5\, immediately after the bridge over the East Fork Lewis River\, turn right on W. 3rd Street\, then take the next right and proceed down the hill. Park near the trailhead by the water reclamation plant. \n Advance reservations are required—we limit the number of participants to ensure that everyone has an enjoyable and educational experience.  Dress for the weather\, and please\, no pets! \n  \nEvent:

We will not be at the interpretive center. \nWhat to Bring\n— Prepare for the weather\, comfortable walking\, hiking shoes\, or hiking sandals that can get dirty. No flip flops.\n— Money if you want to buy John’s books. $25-30 each\, sliding scale\, (list price is $28) cash or check. Edible Wild Plants\, Volumes 1 and/or 2.
