SUMMARY:Land Tending at Leach Botanical Garden
DESCRIPTION:Gather with us in the Back 5 at Leach Botanical Garden for a morning of land tending and appreciation! This work helps to increase Pacific Northwest ecosystem diversity in an expanding habitat area and supports our collaborative Back 5 educational project. No experience necessary! \nThe Leach Botanical Garden is a hidden gem in outer SE Portland. Beyond the manicured paths of the garden are several acres of forests and fields which have become overrun by Himalayan blackberry\, English ivy\, and other plants that discourage diversity. The garden needs your help to become a healthy ecosystem again! \nThank you for volunteering to join us in opening spaces to promote a healthy ecosystem in the Leach Botanical Garden! Volunteers are encouraged to enjoy the rest of the garden after the event. \nWhat: land tending\, grubbing\, and weeding. \nWhen: Wednesday\, August 13th\, 2025\, 9am-12pm \nWhere: Leach Botanical Garden (see directions below) \nWhat to bring: Bring a filled water bottle and snacks. You’re welcome to bring gloves and tools\, if you want to use your own. \nWhat we provide: Gloves\, tools\, and instruction on how to safely use tools and what plants we’ll remove. \nChildren are welcome but must be accompanied by an attentive adult. This work is around and near prickly plants and on uneven terrain which can be challenging for young children.
