SUMMARY:Inner Bark: Citizen’s Rare Plant Watch
DESCRIPTION:Bark and Citizens Rare Plant Watch are joining forces to bring volunteers into the office to learn about rare plants\, and specifically Corydalis aquae-gelidae. Identifying rare plants in timber sales can help build better comments\, identify at-risk ecosystems\, and just deepen our understanding of nature. \nIf you attend this classroom portion\, you will be then invited to a field portion on July 7th. Field portion details will only be given to those who attend. \nCitizen’s Rare Plant Watch is a group based out of PSU which trains volunteers to search for rare species of plants and contribute to their conservation in the state of Oregon. Our mission is to increase the understanding of the status and extent of rare plant species throughout Oregon\, while promoting direct involvement of volunteers in conservation. \nNora Dunkirk is a Mycologist and Botanist with INR at Portland State University. She completed her PhD at the University of Wisconsin–Madison in the Botany Department\, where she focused on Fungal biology in response to global change. At INR\, she works with plants and fungi\, developing species accounts for species of conservation concern\, and she is responsible for maintaining the plant\, lichen\, and fungi INR rare species databases. Nora has recently taken leadership of the group Citizen’s Rare Plant Watch\, which leads volunteers to help land managers in Oregon find rare native plants across the state.
