SUMMARY:In-Person Black Oystercatcher Community Science Training – May 10\, 2025
DESCRIPTION:Black Oystercatchers are a striking and easily recognizable bird with whom we share our coast. Because of their small global population size\, low reproductive rate\, and reliance on rocky intertidal habitats\, they are considered a “species of high conservation concern” and act as an indicator of intertidal ecosystem health. Our community science work with this coastal bird is aiding our efforts to protect rocky shoreline habitats. Learn more about the Oregon Black Oystercatcher Project. \nJoin this training to help us monitor Black Oystercatchers along the Oregon coast or simply to learn more about this charismatic shorebird. The training will cover Black Oystercatcher life history\, the conservation challenges they face\, and survey protocol to participate in our nest monitoring program. \n\nVirtual training:  April 30\, 2025 | 6:30 – 8 p.m.\nIn-person training: May 10\, 2025 | 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Circle Creek Conservation Center \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat to expect: The first 2 hours will be the indoor learning portion\, followed by an optional ~1 hour field trip to a nearby location to practice observing oystercatchers. Snack and beverages will be available.
